Reference guide for the Scroll Smoother extension in DiviAnimator.
Requirements #
You need Divi Theme or Divi Builder, DiviAnimator, and the Scroll Smoother Extension enabled. Requires Divi 5 and Lenis smooth scroll library.
Overview #
Scroll Smoother applies inertia-based smooth scrolling to your pages using the Lenis library. Settings are per-device, so you can use different animation speeds and easing curves on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Enabling the Extension #
- Go to DiviAnimator → Extensions in your WordPress admin
- Find Scroll Smoother and toggle it on
- Click Save Settings
When enabled, the master toggle activates or deactivates the entire feature. Per-device settings below only apply when this is on.
Per-Device Settings #
Enable or disable smooth scrolling for each device type independently. This allows different behavior on desktop versus mobile, for example.
Enable for Desktop #
Applies to screens 981px and wider. Toggle on to use smooth scrolling on desktop devices.
Enable for Tablet #
Applies to screens 768px to 980px. Toggle on to use smooth scrolling on tablet devices.
Enable for Mobile #
Applies to screens 767px and below. Toggle on to use smooth scrolling on mobile devices.
Each device type can have its own scroll duration, easing, and touch settings. Disabling a device type bypasses all smooth scrolling for that breakpoint.
Scroll Duration #
Controls how long the scroll animation takes to complete, in seconds. Range: 0.1-5. Default varies by device.
- 0.3-0.5s: Snappy, quick settling
- 0.8-1.2s: Standard, moderate motion
- 1.5-2s: Slow, extended animation
Longer durations increase the visible smoothing effect but can feel sluggish. Shorter durations feel more responsive but less smooth. Default is 1.2s for desktop, 0.5s for mobile.
Easing Function #
Controls the acceleration curve applied during scroll animation.
- Ease Out Cubic: Fast start, slow end (default desktop)
- Ease In Out Quad: Gradual acceleration and deceleration
- Ease Out Quad: Quick start, gentle finish
- Linear: Constant speed throughout
- Ease In Cubic: Slow start, fast end
Ease Out variants feel more natural for scroll interactions. Ease In Out provides smoother transitions. Linear feels mechanical.
Touch Settings #
Mobile-specific options for gesture-based scrolling.
Smooth Touch #
When on, applies smooth scrolling easing to touch gestures (swiping). When off, uses native scroll behavior. Default: on for mobile, off for desktop.
Touch Multiplier #
Controls momentum for touch flicks, as a multiple of the base scroll distance. Range: 0.5-3. Default: 1.5.
- 0.5-1.0x: Conservative, stops quickly
- 1.0-1.5x: Balanced momentum
- 1.5-2.5x: High momentum, travels far
Higher multipliers mimic native mobile scroll momentum. Lower values feel more controlled.

General Tips #
- Shorter durations on mobile prevent scrolling from feeling sluggish on slower networks
- Test on actual devices—simulators don't reflect real scroll performance
- High touch multipliers can cause unexpected scroll distances; start at 1.5
- Disable Smooth Touch if users report janky behavior with flick gestures
- Desktop and mobile can have very different duration settings—optimize each separately
Troubleshooting #
Smooth scrolling not working #
Verify the extension is enabled and the per-device toggle for your breakpoint is on. Clear browser cache. Check browser console for JavaScript errors.
Scrolling feels laggy or choppy #
Reduce scroll duration (shorter = faster settling). Disable on problematic devices. Test in incognito mode to rule out browser extensions.
Touch scrolling doesn't feel natural on mobile #
Try disabling Smooth Touch to use native scroll behavior. Or reduce the Touch Multiplier to 1.0 for more controlled momentum.
Scroll animation too slow #
Decrease scroll duration. Check if a slower easing (Ease In Cubic) is selected—switch to Ease Out Cubic for snappier response.
Page appears to scroll too far on mobile #
Reduce Touch Multiplier from default 1.5 to 1.0 or lower.
Smooth scroll conflicts with sticky elements #
Scroll Smoother works at the page level and usually doesn't conflict. If issues occur, check sticky element z-index or try disabling smooth scroll for that device type.
